There has always been a strong football tradition in Drumkilly with affiliated teams in the 1910s , 1920s and 1930s and amalgamations with Ardkill and Kilnaleck on occasions.

The last affiliated Drumkilly team was formed after a meeting in Drumkilly hall in November 1952 and this team reached the junior football semi final in 1955 where they were defeated 2-8 to 0-6 by Mullagh.

Drumkilly and Crosserlough amalgamated in 1957 as Crosserlough and this team went on to win the senior football championship in 1958.
